Landwash 2013
soundscape, mono, 21'12"
The purpose of the contest 'Music for Car Parks' was to create a piece that would be played in all Interparking car parks in Europe. My contribution got selected as one of the 10 finalists. For this composition I based my piece on the movements that take place at the landwash, the place between the sea and the beach.
"Lydia Hannah's sound piece “Landwash”, combining spaces and materials with different properties. Sonic high and low tides alternate with gentle instruments and field recordings. Hannah’s sound works display a magical quality that could be described as a spell, an inner monologue and an amplification of the surrounding environment. The sound spreads like water, taking the shape of the space it inhabits. In the same way, the sound takes the shape of the person it enters – sometimes it is more intense, other times it pulls back. For a moment, there is clarity, one unit of time has passed, but only momentarily, as we already hear the next.
one approaching." - Laura Toots
